James Halliday 2015 Australian Wine Companion - 2012 Black Blood Series Results

The much anticipated James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2015 Edition has just been released. Hugh Hamilton Wines was rated 5 Stars and the three 2012 'Black Blood' wines have been awarded 94 points or above.

'BLACK BLOOD III' BLACK SHEEP VINEYARD OLD VINE SHIRAZ  2012
96 POINTS
"Has the most vivid colour of the Black Blood series; from the cooler Blewitt Springs district, the vines planted in ‘35; this has a brightness and an elegance that sets it apart from I and II; silky tannins underpin the joyous red fruits, spice and subtle chocolate. Beautiful wine. Drink by: 2037" James Halliday

'BLACK BLOOD II' CHURCH VINEYARD SHIRAZ  2012
95 POINTS
"The colour is the next best after Black Blood III, deep crimson-purple; from the Church Vineyard purchased by the family in ‘47; there is more life, more light and shade, more red fruits to accompany the platform of savoury black fruits; the overall mouthfeel is very good, the length excellent. Drink by: 2032" James Halliday

'BLACK BLOOD I' CELLAR VINEYARD SHIRAZ  2012
94 POINTS
"Very good colour, slightly more developed than II or III; from 16 rows within a block within a vineyard adjacent to the cellar door; dark, rich and brooding, it has a mosaic of blackberry, earth, bramble, licorice and the most bitter dark chocolate; the tannins, of course, are there, and the wine (just) carries the alcohol, thinning out fractionally, rather than warming up, on the finish. Drink by: 2027" James Halliday
