The Mediterranean way of life
At Hugh Hamilton Wines we have three estate vineyards, each one has a story to tell.
You know the our Black Sheep Vineyard was once named ‘Cornucopia’. It was a rambling abundance of grapes, currants, figs, plums and apples. The vineyard has such a charm the way it meanders down shady paths, past ancient vines, providing glorious shade & tasty fruits on hot summer days.
It’s where host our annual ‘Shearing the Vines’, an immersion experience for our Black Sheep Club members, where they come onto the vineyard and learn why McLaren Vale is perfect for grapes and then learn to hand harvest our Ancient Shiraz. At the end we celebrate with a long table rustic lunch in the old currant drying shed.
All this Mediterranean life of great food and friends, captures the spirit of our feature wine perfectly. Spain’s número uno grape is Tempranillo, which we make into The Scoundrel and it is perfecto with a big dish of paella.
This weekend we will be enjoying both of them as three generations of our family come together to celebrate Father’s Day. Hugh will be shucking the oysters, my husband Mark will be cooking the paella, Pam and I will be supervising and the Niño’s Stella and William will be providing the entertainment.
